Willfully abandoning the Gartner TCO model (it's about value, not cost these days)

Not long ago people would go to work to enjoy the best most modern technology experience available. It was at work where we were likely first introduced to PCs, email, and the Internet. Going home, even for the early technophiles, typically meant using less capable and connected technologies.

SIM Chicago is excited to present Christian Anschuetz, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Underwriters Laboratories.

Mr. Anschuetz will discuss how today the situation is radically different. Now the standard enterprise provides far less innovative, intriguing, and in many cases, less personally productive technologies than a person possesses when they return home. This new reality, created in large part by enterprise IT organizations attempt to standardize, simplify and create cost efficiencies, has created inflexible computing platforms. In general, our enterprises are over simplified and the term "lock down" has become commonplace.

In short, the PC is no longer personal and a firm's productivity and even its ability to innovate in this rapidly changing world are diminished.

During Mr. Anschuetz' presentation, he will further discuss:

  • How consumerization will and must change and improve the enterprise
  • How firms that do begin to effectively blend consumer and enterprise capabilities will simultaneously democratize innovation
  • Why the Gartner TCO model, once an effective tool, needs to be permanently and irrevocably discarded
  • We look forward to seeing you February 17th.
