People, Process, Technology, what about Risk? -  The Leadership Role of the CIO

CIOs can take an executive leadership role as companies are looking to risk and controls management to become more strategic and forward-looking, with a focus on creating as opposed to merely preserving value. This session presented by Neil Brigham, Midwest U.S. IT Advisory Services Leader, will address the CIO's leadership role in: 

·   The emergence of risk as the '4th dimension' – an opportunity to add strategic value 

·   How risk is redefining the role of the CIO and how the CIO can benefit the organization as a whole

·   Value Protection and Value Creation – how to balance the portfolio

Background
Neil is involved with and is a frequent speaker to multiple industry organizations. Representative examples include: KPMG Chief Risk Officer Share Forum for the Utility industry – initiated the Share Forum as a means for utility risk executives to meet and share leading practices in an open environment; keynote speaker at the Emerging Issues Policy Forum for Southeastern U.S. Utilities and Regulators--2001, 2003, 2004, and 2005; Bonbright Energy conference--2001, 2003, and 2004 - participated in the conference, moderated panels, and this year secured the president of FPL Group as the keynote speaker.

Neil is also the vice president of the Board for Boundless Playgrounds, a not-for-profit organization that provides the technical, design, and support services communities need to accomplish their goal of creating fully integrated, universally accessible playgrounds where children with and without disabilities in their community can play together. To date, this organization has raised several million dollars of contributions and succeeds in building nearly a hundred playgrounds in communities across North America.

Prior to KPMG, Neil was a leader in the consulting practices of Accenture, Arthur Andersen, and a high-tech start-up company, and he was the chief information officer for a $5B corporation. Neil graduated from Syracuse University, was salutatorian of his graduating class, and received both a bachelor and finance degree.

Neil and his wife Mary Ellen have three children and live in Atlanta, GA. Neil works from his office in downtown Chicago, IL.
