Chicago Chapter and Local Networking


The Chicago chapter of SIM is one of the largest chapters in the association with more than 200 members. SIM Chicago provides a unique opportunity to interact with thought leaders throughout the technology field and to join peers in giving back to the industry and community. SIM Chicago fully supports all of the international organization's initiatives as well as its own efforts which include but are not limited to the following:

  • Network with senior IT leaders from industry, government, non-profit, and academic sectors.
  • Enjoy a monthly luncheon and/or dinner series running from September through May (every third Thursday of the month) and featuring nationally recognized IT thought leaders, chosen by practitioners to challenge and expand your understanding of leading edge technology. The series balances real world experiences, insights from industry pundits, academic research, technology innovation, and the impact of technology on the community.   • Participate, if qualified, in CIO-only events (current schedule of two to four annual events).
  • Raise funds for selected charities through annual golf tournament (August), dinners, and other social and honorary events.
  • Receive invitations and discounts to other technology programs in Chicagoland
  • Support the Technology Leaders Association (TLA), a non-profit organization that provides support and information to IT leaders in transition.
  • Contribute to discussions between educators and industry leaders regarding future staffing needs in the technology field (underprivileged young adults, local middle and high schools, and universities).

National Networking

SIMposium - More than 600 highly influential IT decision-makers and purchasers will gather in Atlanta at SIMposium10 in October. This annual event generally held in early fall provides three and a half days for IT leaders to take advantage of the unique combination of learning, networking, and entertainment opportunities. CIO only roundtables bring you face-to-face with other key industry executives to share knowledge and network about topics pertinent to IT leaders

Education

SIM's Regional Leadership Forum (RLF) is an intensive, nine-month leadership development program, providing training for future IT leaders SIM's Continuing Education Partner Program offers degree programs, certifications, and courses at a 10% discount to SIM members. MISQE is a quarterly online journal that contains research reports, articles, and studies with unique insights and useful conceptual frameworks. SIM's sponsorship of this highly regarded publication entitles SIM members full access. SIM's Partner Program fosters teamwork and an on-going intellectual exchange between senior IT executives and industry product/service providers. SIM Partners provide benefit to the membership through their vendor-neutral white papers and Webinars, sponsorship of local and national events, and demonstration of thought leadership within the chapters

Community Outreach

SIM Foundation's programs to fund education and outreach for future IT professionals (e.g. Teen Tech Week) The Chicago SIM Chapter is actively involved in i.c. stars, and the Information Technology Association and Foundation. These organizations promote the vision of keeping the technology professionals in Illinois, and developing our future IT Leaders in the Chicagoland area.

Background Established in 1968, the Society for Information Management (SIM) www.simnet.org is the premier network for IT leaders comprised of over 3,300 members including CIOs, senior level IT executives, prominent academicians, consultants, and other IT leaders. SIM is a community of thought leaders who share experiences and apply rich intellectual capital, and who explore future IT direction. Through its 31 chapters, SIM provides resources and programs inspired by IT leaders for IT leaders that enable CIOs to further develop the leadership capabilities of themselves and the key and emerging leaders in their organizations. SIM provides the collective voice to advocate policy and legislation of the IT profession across industries.
