At SIM Chicago’s recent 2019 Spring Gala, partner organizations, SIM Chicago, AITP and the Executives Club of Chicago awarded the first-ever CIO+ of the Year Award to Wendy Woodward, CIO, Wheaton College.

The 2019 CIO+ Award recognizes a CIO who has successfully expanded his or her current role into other business areas like Operations, Marketing, Sales, CEO role, etc., thus, broadening their impact on driving success for the overall business entity.


As the Chief Information and Campus Services Officer (CICSO) of Wheaton College, Wendy provides vision, leadership and innovation in developing College-wide strategies for leveraging the potential of technology and enhanced campus service delivery in advancing Wheaton’s academic and institutional objectives. In her technology leadership role she is responsible for selecting and supporting all administrative and academic information technology (IT) system operations, data centers, process improvement, business intelligence, IT support services, communication networks (voice and data), systems integration, enterprise systems management, and IT security, as well as establishing technology standards and policy, and pursuing compliance. In her campus services leadership role, she works to improve the student experience through housing, dining, campus store, event services and the campus post office.

In addition, Wendy coordinates the alignment of strategy with business objectives by evaluating the overall operations and project portfolio through business metrics. In her role, Wendy also ensures efficient and cost-effective operations for the enterprise that exemplifies good stewardship while collaborating with partners and stakeholders.

She actively collaborates with colleagues across the higher education vertical, through leadership and other activities with EDUCAUSE, CLAC, WSIT, HESS, SIM Chicago, CCCU and other organizations. Wendy previously served for 15+ years at Northwestern University (IL), the last ten as Director of Technology Support Services. Wendy's previous experience includes executive management responsibility in customer focused, technologically enhanced operations. She has an M.S. in Communication, emphasis on systems, strategy, and management, from Northwestern University and a B.A. in Organizational Management from North Park University.
