Skill 4: Alignment (Series 4)

Successful leaders:

  • Have extraordinary focus on their vision and their goals and they align their strategies, plan, actions, and teams accordingly.
  • Determine the one key initiative they want to undertake to achieve their vision. They also know the three or four supporting strategies (or critical success factors) that enable them to thrive.
  • Know that choosing one key specific key initiative (and aligning all effort to this end) does not mean leaving anything behind. They know that expanding their dreams and goals comes from creating success in one area fist.
  • Create alignment so that all steps are contributing to the progress that will deliver the ultimate success. Small steps with clear direction create big change!
  • Are extremely sharp at finding the next steps that provide “leverage”, meaning those steps that are relatively easy (or at least require similar level of effort as other steps), but which provide the most significant impact. What do we do well?
  • Create leverage by developing aligned plans and next steps with the best possible return. Alignment creates a North Star that everyone can see and by which they can set their compass.
  • Are going to make sure the details are named. The details reveal just how well aligned a team strategy, plans and steps really are.
  • Know that big change will not occur in a day. They focus on progress. Not just any progress, but those specific steps that move toward the vision and established goals.
