Skill 9: Communication (Series 9) A leader listens intently, communicates deeply, and sets clear expectations. They listen to how something is said and what is not being said, as much as to what words are being used. They ask insightful and empowering questions to generate thought allowing others to build confidence on their own decision-making and cognitive abilities. They are not afraid to ask questions to gain greater clarity. They use the language of the person to whom they are talking by paying attention to the words, phrases, and sayings that other people use. Specialist have reported that words themselves:
- Provides less than 7% of what is being communicated
- Provides 38% of a message’s meaning and is derived by the voice that’s saying it, meaning the voice’s tone, pace, volume, inflection, pitch, etc., And
- 55% of a message’s meaning comes from the speaker’s physiology – their body language, facial expressions, gestures, posture, etc.
As a SIM CIO member there is no cost for this series for up to four future leaders of the member CIO. Space is limited!
